What Oslo showed

Security, cooperation, capital – and a new generation.

The conference opened with State Secretary Marte Gerhardsen of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, who was clear on how important space is to the defence and security of Norway and Europe – and that new capabilities are needed to defend ourselves in space.

  1. Cooperation across borders

Politicians, the armed forces and industry made the same point: cooperation across companies, sectors and national borders – and the inclusion of SMEs to build the industrial base.

  2. Greater ambitions

Greater ambitions and larger investments were a recurring theme through both days.

  3. Access to capital

How Europe can innovate in the instruments that give scale-up companies access to capital – so that they can grow here.

  4. The next generation

Student organisations from ten Norwegian universities, brought together nationally by Norstec, showed that their ambitions keep growing – with new projects including QuSat, a new satellite from Orbit NTNU. The community grows every year, and the collaboration with Spaceport Norway continues.

  5. Mavericks

A new generation of companies taking on large and complex challenges:

    • Light Technologies – ultralight cooling for data centres in orbit
    • Tycho Space – complete satellite solutions with AI and onboard processing for faster access to information
    • Space Lab – a new class of launch vehicle, launched from the sea
    • Nåva Space – next-generation spacesuits for training and EVA

Space Lab and Nåva Space also announced a new collaboration on an IVA suit.
